Ferret 2005

With such a metaphorical album title, it is always intriguing to see what comes out. I wonder if a band can put together a coherent story, and have the music reflect the lyrical themes.

The title also makes me wonder if reviewers are using it as a launchpad into mocking them. This type of comedy is low-brow, and will be avoided by this site.

As I examined the insert, listening to the introduction, which is spoken word, I mused about what was waiting for me in the other tracks. The story seems simple, a drug addict crashing, and having to recover.

So, I deduced that this would start out as a light melodic piece, and then devulge into the torment, and then resolve with the lighter, more melodic theme.

I was wrong, musically, this is emotional music, known by it's abbreviation, emo. I did not find any part that could be considered metalcore, or even the abomination that is known as "screamo".

Though, I will end on a positive note. If you fast forward through the songs, with the ability to hear the sound resulting from this, it sounds like there are some riffs, and maybe a solo or two. The vocals decline, from an annoying shrill, to a mouse fornicating.

My judgment? Not metal. Not metalcore. Not in my realm. And it should be banished from any realm.
