This album is truly unique. There are a lot of bands out there that want you to think that they are not generic, that they
are not clones of other bands. Plenty that say that no one has or have either had their sound. But, I find that inside of
the catalog that Green Carnation has produced, they can proudly hold their heads high and claim true uniqueness.
The cd starts with thick, crunchy guitars that give out to a more acoustic flourish. The song that takes shape is almost
of an eighties metal anthems, but garnished with something more. That something more is these flourishes that blend and weave
throughout all the songs.
There are songs that show their love for doom. There are songs that show their affinity towards earlier metal offerings
from the scene of era's past. The vocals are consistent throughout. They are very melodic, very clean and very emotive. It
is an added plus to have a vocalist that can keep pace with the diversity of the music accompanying it. This album really
does not fit in a genre, but it definitely fits for the label that they are on. It's progressive, it's artsy, and last but
not least, it's metal.
My judgment is that other bands should take the hint from Green Carnation and some of their label-mates. Do not fear diversity.
Bands need to be encouraged to throw away genre limits, and let their hearts and instincts guide them.
